Fun Times In February 2017

               February 2017 is a month full of great events and fun ways to enjoy Savannah!  Rather you want to get an up close and personal look at one of Savannah’s finest museum homes, shop, get married, pre-game for the second largest St. Patrick’s Day celebration in the nation or get your 5k on, February has plenty to keep you busy here in historic Savannah.


               Join Friends of the Telfair Board members on Tuesday, February 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 for a fun evening exploring the Ins and Outs of the Owens-Thomas House. Justin Gunther, SCAD Preservation Design Professor, will take you through the interior spaces, highlighting the important preservation projects of the past few decades. Jonathan Stalcup, Architectural Tours of Savannah and author of the book by the same name, will guide you on an exploration of the beautiful exterior architectural highlights designed by William Jay. Shannon Browning-Mullis, Curator of History and Decorative Arts, will share the plans for reinterpreting the Slave Quarters space while you relax with wine, cheese, and crackers.                Enjoy an event like no other with Springtime Made in the South, Feb. 10-12, 2017, featuring amazing crafts people, outstanding art and tasty treats. Handcrafted, one-of-a-kind designs populate the hundreds of booths that will fill the Springtime Made in the South festival. From artwork to classic fabric bags, fused glass to nature’s photography, there is something for everyone. Don’t forget all the wonderfully delicious gourmet delights to savor and so much more!  Admission is $7 for adults and good for all three days. Children 12 years and under are free. The festival takes place at the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center, Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

               Explore the Historic District of Savannah by visiting artists and galleries every second Saturday of the month! Meet at River Street Inn at 2 p.m. for a warm introductory welcome by Artist Tiffani Taylor, founder and producer of Savannah Art Walk (or, one of our charming co-hosts in her absence). Pick up your map, enjoy a complimentary glass of wine, and meet some of our artists!  From 3-6 p.m., head out to see all of the participating galleries of the season. The evening comes to a close at the Andaz, where there will be a wine pour, a gratis, and a raffle at 6 p.m. Guests who have visited 10 or more galleries 6 p.m. will be entered into a drawing for VIP Gifts, which can include free hotel night stays, restaurant gift certificates, gift baskets or gallery gift certificates.

               On Valentines Day, get married at Savannah’s first house museum and historic landmark, the Davenport House!  Ceremonies at the historic house museum will be offered every 15 minutes. There 24 time slots available between 9 to 11:15 a.m., 1:15 to 3:15 p.m., 5:15 to 7 pm. Drop-ins on the day of are welcome. However, if you would like to choose a time, contact the museum in advance. There is a $150 donation to the museum. Call or come by the Davenport House to make your donation. Online donations may be made up to 24 hours before. Confirmed reservations are highly recommended as the event tends to sell out.  Couples must bring a valid Georgia marriage license, which does not require a waiting period or a blood test.


               February 17-19 stop by the Savannah Civic Center and check out Savannah Irish Festival!  For more than two decades, the Savannah Irish Festival has been bringing a festive celebration of Irish Heritage to Savannah. Every year, they bring top Irish musical acts and young Irish dancers to Georgia’s First City to perform up on one of their four stages, entertaining crowds filled with families and friends. With a weekend full of performances and activities, there’s fun for everyone at the weekend festival. For more information, go to

               Come get crazy with the Savannah Color Vibe 5K! The Good Vibes Tour is coming to the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center at 8 a.m on Feb. 18, 2017 and we want you to experience the most vibrant 5K of all time! Grab your friends and family and join us as we blast you with lots of fun, epic beats and TONS OF COLOR while you run/walk our Savannah Color Vibe 5K course.                The Race for Preservation on Saturday February 25th is the perfect way to see Savannah with 10K and 5K courses that wind their way through the five historic districts on streets lined with moss-covered oaks and blooming azaleas.  The Race for Preservation 5K & 10K features an awe-inspiring route, which highlights five historic neighborhoods: The Landmark District, Victorian District, Thomas Square Street Car, Ardsley Park Chatham Crescent and Daffin Park/Parkside neighborhoods. The Race for Preservation is a family friendly event and a perfect way to support your community while having fun.
