Pet Friendly Savannah

Are you a dog-parent?  If so, you know the worst thing about travel is leaving your pet at home.  No matter how good the sitter or the kennel, it’s just doesn’t feel right to leave a member of the family behind.  The solution is easy if you’re headed to pet-friendly Savannah, Georgia — bring your dog with you and enjoy walking, touring, dining and shopping together!  Savannah is a dog friendly city with many places to go and things to do for a wonderful Savannah experience for the entire family, including the family dog.

Start off by taking in Savannah’s 22 historic squares!  The squares, shaded by 200 year old Live Oaks are the perfect places to spend a day with your dog, including Troupe Square,Ellis Square and Forsyth Park, all of which feature doggie water fountains perfect for your pup!  In Troupe Square you will find the oldest of these, the Myers Drinking Fountain, that was presented to the city by Mayor Herman Meyers in 1897. It was initially placed in Forsyth Park, but moved later to Troup Square, proving that Savannah has been pet friendly long before it became a trend.

Savannah is one of the best shopping destinations in the South and yes, take Fido with you!  As you walk down Broughton Street you will notice several shops with dog bowls right outside their door, but there are some places that will welcome your dog with open arms as a part of your shopping experience.  The Savannah Bee Company is dog-friendly! The shop sells a fine selection of specialty honey, organic beehive-based skincare products, and mead. Savannah Bee Company also sells items made especially for your dog.  Enjoy a honey and mead tasting right in the store and watch your dog’s tail wag as they are greeted by staff with special honey treats!  Don’t forget to pamper your pet with a trip to Woof Gang Bakery for homemade specialty dog treats and unique toys and wardrobe selections!

Take your four legged family member along to The GA State Railroad Museum!  It is outdoors and always accommodates visitors with their pets!  You will also find Webb Military Museum to be extremely pet friendly as well, allowing your dog to walk with you through the collection of Civil War through present day military artifacts.  Visit Old Fort Jackson or Fort Pulaski National Parks without leaving them behind!  Explore miles and miles of nature trails at Skidway Island State Park, or wander through beautiful Bonaventure Cemetery and historic Colonial Park Cemetery!  The list goes on and on!

If you visit in mid-March you will be part of the nation’s second largest St. Patrick’s Day celebration!  Dogs are not only welcome spectators for our 4 hour long parade but they also are part of the show!  Make sure to book your hotel early though!  In the spring we have The Doggie Carnival in Forsyth Park to benefit the Humane Society and October brings two big events!  During Oktoberfest don’t miss the Weiner dog races on River Street and for Halloween bring your pup out for Wagoween…trick or treating for dogs!

Looking for a place to eat without leaving your dog locked up in your hotel room?  Most restaurants that have outdoor seating are dog friendly!  For coffee, stop by Gallery Espresso or Sentient Bean.  J. Christopher’s has a fantastic breakfast and a separate “Doggie Bag” menu for the pup’s palate.  Kayak Café and Firefly Café have nice outdoor seating and Mellow Mushroom on Liberty will bring water in a bowl without asking.  The Olde Pink House and Vic’s on the River offer finer dining with outdoor seating for guests with pets.  For a happy hour cocktail, Jen’s & Friends loves dogs and you can always find furry patrons at The Six Pence Pub and in the Beer Garden at Moon River Brewery.

When it comes to tours, many of Savannah’s walking tours including Savannah Dan Tours, and trolley tours like Olde Savannah Tours can accommodate your pet, however don’t hesitate to ask when you book your tours!  While you tour with us we provide a small dog basket available on our electric bikes for small dogs, but what about the Segways or larger breeds?  No problem!  Bring them into our office when you check in and let them hang out with our staff!  We love dogs and are happy to let them stay with us while you are out on your tour.

And when you’re done with it all and ready to go home, give Savannah Pedi cab a call and they’ll come pick you and your pooch up for a ride home.

No matter what you choose to do while in Savannah, never hesitate to include the whole family including the furry members!  Come visit us at Adventure Tours in Motion and let us show you all that Savannah has to offer!  See ya’ll soon!
