Hot Times in Savannah!

Fireworks in Savannah, GA               Savannah is THE HOT place to visit this summer, and I’m not talking about the weather!  There is always plenty to see and do here in the, “Hostess City of the South,” but this summer is going to be full of fun for the entire family, films, festivals and even a very unique parade!

           June 3 & 4, brings you the 4th Annual Savannah Blues, Jazz and BBQ festival on picturesque River Street with the main stage at Rousakis Plaza!  The headliner this year is Jacey Faulk.  You can qualify for the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest that is held on the 4th of July, listen to live jazz, deep southern blues and of course indulge in some of the south’s very best barbeque Friday night and all day Saturday.  As an added bonus, festival attendees on Friday night can also enjoy our 1st Friday Fireworks display that lights up the Savannah skyline every first Friday of the month! Just to add to the fun rent an electric bike or take a Segway tour and let Adventure Tours show you around.

            Do you want to get out of the heat and take in some real excitement?  Let the lovely ladies of the Savannah Derby Devils show you how girls do it down south!  Yes, we even have our own official roller derby team! These devilish ladies are introducing us to roller derby, tournament style, with the inaugural, “Savannah Summer Slam Tournament,” including two days of derby fun with over seven teams from all over the country on June 8th and June 9th.

            On June 11, take some time to enjoy the last Art Walk of the year!  Journey through the beautiful city and visit as many of the 32 participating galleries as possible including Tiffani Taylor Gallery, Kobo Gallery and A.T. Hun to name

just a few.  Meet our talented artists and hear their inspirations... You may even be able to walk into their galleries while they are working on their pieces.  Make sure to gather for a gratis wine reception at Top Deck at The Cotton Sail Hotel at 4:00 PM and Andaz Hotel at 8:00 PM.

            Looking for something in Savannah to do for the Fourth of July? Segway around the historic distric and check out all the events.We all know that there are plenty of red, white and blue events celebrating Independence Day, but which one is right for you?  Start off your celebrations on Tybee Island on Sunday, July 3 for Fireworks on the Beach. The celebration begins at 9:15 and can be enjoyed anywhere along the eastern side of the island, since the fireworks are staged on the pier. You might want to arrive early because this is one of the busiest days of the year on Tybee.  Back in the Historic District, River Street takes center stage once again with the fireworks on Monday July the 4th at 9:00 PM.  But don’t miss out on the live music and booths run by regional artists that are always in attendance for Independence Day.

            If Independent Films are your thing, you will definitely not want to miss the Big River Film Festival on July 8th and 9th. A Segway Movie Tour is a great jump start to you movie buffs. This year’s festival will feature, “My Brother’s Keeper,” “Ben and Ara,” “A Walk in Winter,” among many others.  If you decide to add this to your itinerary you will certainly enjoy taking in the vision of diversity, appreciation, and passion for film making.  The Festival is a chance to discover new voices, 

experience the art of filmmaking, as well as to explore TV, web series and alternative media.

            Travel back in time through music on August 6!  Visit our historic Johnny Mercer Theater for the vocal and music stylings of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, Saturday, August 6.  Don’t miss your chance to see this true music icon and member of the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame perform live.  Some of you may remember his hits, “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Walk Like a Man,” among many other top 20 hits from the 60’s, 70’s and more!  There has even been a Tony Award winning Musical written about the life of Frankie Valli called “Jersey Boys.” Let's not forget a Segway Tour at Bonaventure where you get to see Johnny Mercer's grave and reminisce on some of his old tunes like"Jeppers Creepers".

            Savannah also has plenty of recurring events that can be enjoyed throughout the summer including Farmers Markets, our famous “First Friday” festivities as well as an Art Walk once a month. 

            During our first Friday celebration each month you will be treated to a Fireworks shows Friday night at 9:00.  You can gather on River Street to view the show or if you want to make a full night of it, why not take a free ferry ride to the Westin Savannah Harbor from River Street and enjoy the First Friday Oyster Roast from 7 PM until 9:45 PM!  Guests will delight in specialty cocktails, enjoy coastal cuisine like oysters, Low Country Boil and BBQ, dance to live music on the Riverfront Esplanade and catch the best views of the sunset and fireworks!  Attendees can also shop with some of Savannah’s finest local artists, right on the Savannah River! Want more things to do while waiting on the fireworks then Segway around historic downtown.

            Explore Forsyth Park and stop for a stroll through the Forsyth Farmers Market every Saturday from 9 AM until 1 PM.  Forsyth Park is one of the jewels in Savannah’s royal crown!  The park itself is 40 acres and includes a small café, music venue, and playground for the kids, tennis courts and tons of room to picnic or even lounge in the sun!  At the farmers market you will find fresh seasonable vegetables from local farms and vendors like, “The Back Forty Farm,” “Solstice Acres,” and “Canewater Farms.”  You can find fresh eggs from, “Flatland Farms,” local artisan wildflower honey from, “Readees Bee’s,” fresh baked bread from, “Sprout Mamas Bread,” and even homemade chocolate from one of North Americas top 10 chocolatiers, “Chocolat by Adam Turoni.”

            Visit Savannah this summer with your family, your girlfriends, wedding party or anyone who is smart enough to join you!  There is plenty to keep you busy and many unique festivals and parties of all sorts all year long.  And while you here, don’t forget to tour the historic district, Tybee Beach or Bonaventure Cemetery with us!  Choose a Segway adventure or take our electric bikes out for a spin!  See ya’ll in Savannah soon!
